A set of 14 new tariff quotas for various types of rice from Bangladesh took effect today, establishing new landed-cost conditions for those imports. Today's regulatory update also loaded 30 new records, the majority of which are future-dated technical requirements and conditions for products in the machinery and mechanical appliances sector. The day saw no new trade defence measures published.

Measures taking effect today

The most significant change effective today is the activation of 14 new tariff quotas for various types of husked rice (HS code 1006) originating from Bangladesh. These measures, which were loaded into the system in advance, are now in force. The in-quota duty rates are set at 16.910 EUR per tonne for most varieties, and 28.160 EUR per tonne for Basmati rice (HS 1006201713 and 1006209813).

New measures loaded

Today’s TARIC update contained 30 change records. The activity was concentrated in two areas:

  • Machinery and Mechanical Appliances (Chapter 84): The vast majority of the day's changes—24 records—consisted of future-dated technical requirements and conditions for products in this chapter.
  • Food Preparations (Chapter 20): Six changes related to preferential rates for preparations of vegetables, fruit, and nuts were also loaded.

No new anti-dumping, countervailing, or safeguard measures were introduced in today's update.

What to watch

The newly loaded technical requirements for machinery in Chapter 84, while future-dated, signal upcoming compliance changes for importers in that sector. Meanwhile, following last week's extensive administrative updates to the EU's iron and steel tariff quota system, the trade community continues to watch for any further adjustments or related measures.
